Destructuring in JavaScript

Skipping Values in Arrays
We can skip values easily.
const numbers = [10, 20, 30];
const [first, , third] = numbers;
console.log(first, third);
//output: 10 30
Object Destructuring
Object destructuring helps us to extract values from objects.
Before Destructuring
const user = {
name: "Piyush",
age: 22,
city: "Kolkata"
};
const name = user.name;
const age = user.age;
const city = user.city;
console.log(name, age, city);
Problem:
Repetitive code
Too many object references
After Destructuring
const user = {
name: "Rahul",
age: 22,
city: "Kolkata"
};
const { name, age, city } = user;
console.log(name, age, city);
Much cleaner and easier!
Default Values in Destructuring
We can set default values if data is missing.
Example:
const user = {
name: "Amit"
};
const { name, age = 18 } = user;
console.log(name); // Amit
console.log(age); // 18 (default value)
If age is missing, default value is used.
Array Default Value
const colors = ["red"];
const [first, second = "blue"] = colors;
console.log(first); // red
console.log(second); // blue
